Mitchell Racing Blog; 24th July

The Southern 100 has passed with some excellent racing once again, unfortunately I only made it down for the Monday evening practice session and the Thursday evening prize presentation’s at Castletown square. Having to work on the Thursday race day I was lucky enough to listen to the commentary on Manx Radio, sounded like a real good days racing and was releaved to see Michael Dunlop collect His trophy on crutches after His off at Iron Gate, lucky boy!

The Jurby South Road Races followed on the Saturday, and as they were running short on Marshalls I decided to sign on and help out for the day. Its always a great event and we usually have plenty of entries with the Southern 100 racers opting to stay on the Island for an extra couple of days and mix it with the locals. Roger Maher was absolutely flying on the big bike with the team MBR riders Callum Collister and Johny Heginbothom finishing the top three in the open class. The 600cc race was a close battle with the top 5 finishing within 2 seconds of each other, Callum Collister winning with Si Fulton 2nd Roger Maher 3rd Alan Jackson 4th and Johny Heginbothom 5th.

Unfortunately during the Clubmans race Ryan Myler’s machine punched a hole through the engine down the long start finish straight, spewing oil over a long section of the track, the organisers decided to abandon the meeting as it would of been way too dangerous to continue, a good day all the same.

The new race bike isn’t going to ready until about mid September, and Im really missing not being out on track, the good news is Dave Moffitt had some great results on His JHS Racing SV650 with a 2nd at the Southern 100, so its definitely going to be worth the wait!!

In the mean time Ive booked myself on the race school at the next ARA Meeting on the 1st of August, at least I will be able to get some track time in on the Yamaha R6, hopefully there will be plenty of togs there on the day.

Mitch128′s Blog

Here’s my first Mitch128 Blog onto the new RRS.Com website, hopefully I’ve managed to get setup ok,  and you guys can access this ok, if not then I’m talking to myself (again)!

I will get some pictures added and hopefully make it as interesting as possible with updates of my racing progress and anything else that should be of interest.

The BIG news is I’ve eventually come to a decision regarding my next  race bike after selling my Gixer in June! Last night I put a deposit down on a SV-650 Minitwin and She’s being built specifically to my requirement’s by http://www.jhsracing.co.uk/ , The build should take around 8 weeks to complete and after seeing the machine they prepared for Dave Moffit, I know She’s going to be perfect!!

Once I get back on track and get dialled in,  I will be planning to get across the pond for a meeting in order to upgrade my licence and get rid of the bib. Then its time to work towards my National. I’m looking forward to riding in the different class’s that the Minitwin is eligible for, and all being well the bike should be a bit more competitive than my old K2, just need to sort the rider out now!

Since the TT and apart from sourcing a new race bike I’ve been getting out as much as possible on the road bike, the old R6 is still going like a dream. I took part in the Joey Dunlop Memorial lap that was awesome, and I also joined Dobbsy on his final lap, an honour to follow him and something I will remember for a very long time.

There’s quite a bit going on on the Island at the minute, the Rally is on this weekend and of course its the Southern 100 next week, looking forward to seeing some of you there. Then it s the Jurby Road Race on the 17th, I’ve signed on to Marshall for this and looking forward to what is always a great event!

That’s all for now, will keep you posted on how the new race bike is progressing, and if you have any questions feel free to ask away!!
